Getting the Evidence into Practice: Practice Guidelines
|
"Evidence-Based Practice" is a growing topic In health care today. Some articles and editorials have cited
evidenced-based practice as the newest "buzzword" or latest "catch phrase" in today’s focus on health
care reform, outcomes management and cost-effective delivery of services. Many health care professionals
desire to know more about what is clinically effective in their practice but are confused about the
terminology as well as what is practical application in their day-to-day practice. The completeness
of evidence on which practice is based and the way in which this evidence has been applied to practice
are key considerations to effectiveness in clinical settings. This
workshop is about bringing the
evidence into practice at the point of care, where the care is
delivered. Quality patient care thrives
when a framework exists to create systems supports and
tools for bedside practitioners. Practice
Guidelines are one valuable tool to strengthen evidence-based knowledge and integrate it into
professional practice. This workshop shares
the process of practice guideline development including
research utilization, expert review
and content validity to assure representation of the best evidence
available for integration
into professional practice.
