How to Write Practice Guidelines

Practice Guidelines are tools that delineate the professional services and help support the process of integrated care delivery. Guidelines enhance the process for planning and evaluating care outcomes. They support the critical thinking, planning and teaching at the point of care. Practice Guidelines are different from protocols, procedures, algorithms, and clinical pathways. Practice Guidelines represent some of the most fundamental elements needed before quality can be realized: Individual and team clarity, consistency and competency. This workshop is designed to:
  • Help practitioners define their professional services.
  • Demonstrate how services can be reflected in written Practice Guidelines.
  • Provide an overview of the complete development process.
  • Explain a step-by-step approach to practice guideline development.
