The Magnet Recognition Program® was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to recognize healthcare organizations that provide nursing excellence. The program also provides a vehicle for disseminating successful nursing practices and strategies. The Magnet designation process includes the appraisal of qualitative factors in nursing. These factors, referred to as “Forces of Magnetism”, were first identified through research done in 1983. The current Magnet Recognition Program configures the original 14 Forces of Magnetism into 5 Magnet Model Components. This new, simpler model reflects a greater focus on measuring outcomes, and allows for more streamlined documentation while at the same time retaining the original 14 Forces as foundational.
For over 25 years, CPM has pursued a vision of healthcare that parallels and intersects the principles championed through the Magnet Program. The array of specific organizational characteristics upon which hospitals are evaluated within the Magnet Model Components align with the models of the CPM Framework™. In essence, we’re pre-positioned to equip your organization with the foundational tools, systems and most importantly, changed mindsets, needed to meet Magnet requirements.

Behind each of the CPM models are infrastructures, support systems, content and processes that align with each of the Magnet Model Components. Hospitals use the CPM Framework™ and the Interdisciplinary Integration Model to support the Magnet Model Component Exemplary Professional Practice. CPM and the CPM Consortium™ have been leaders in interdisciplinary relationships. In fact, in 2010, the CPM Consortium received the prestigious Interdisciplinary Group Recognition Award from the National Academies of Practice.
The Partnership Culture model supports the Magnet Model Components of Transformational Leadership and Structural Empowerment. Nurses serving in leadership positions are visible, accessible, and committed to communicating effectively with staff. The Partnership Council model is intentionally designed to foster partnership and linkages to other key leadership bodies.
